General Purpose

Leads overall planning process and continuous development activities for a specific area/unit and analyses the results.  Facilitates strategy and short term planning process.  Provides specialist financial advice to the business.

Main Responsibility Area

The MEA Region Tax Manager will be primarily responsible for managing, conceptualizing and implementing the tax planning, audit defense, tax risk management for corporate taxes (direct, indirect and transfer pricing) in the MEA region. Main Countries in the region include Iran, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Algeria, Libya, Madagascar & Burkina Faso. The Region Tax Manager for MEA will report to the Head of Region Taxes.

Position Description

1. Develop and implement tax efficient structures and processes for Nokia Networks operations in MEA
2. Provide active support and tax guidance to Nokia Networks customer teams in tender / offer phase, contract negotiations and project execution
3. Support and guide Finance & Control in all tax issues arising in reporting, special development projects, invoicing
4. Effectively manage relationship with tax authorities and consultants
5. Support and implement corporate tax policies and Nokia Networks mode of operation
6. Identify and manage tax risk and optimal tax model of Nokia Networks’s operations
7. Review/assess impacts of legislative changes
8. Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to optimize the effective tax rate / operating profit
9. Ensure that correct and efficient positions are adopted in the tax returns with the support of outside counsels and advisers, wherever applicable
10. Detect, monitor and actively manage tax risks
11. Support in direct/TP tax audits and handle appeals and hearings
12. Support in TP documentation preparation
13. Support in quarterly Global Tax Reporting review

Position Requirements

1. Strong Legal, Finance or Accounting background
2. Approx. 8-10 years relevant work experience in Big 4, Legal firm and / or MNCs
3. Experience in cross-border tax planning / structuring and tax incentives applications
4. Excellent knowledge of tax legislation and practices in the US
5. Experience of working in team, preferably manager experience
6. Experience in managing tax and TP audits and liaising with tax authorities
7. Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English language. Knowledge of French & Arabic would be helpful.
